I know many of you are interested in local history, particularly stories about the Germans from Russia. While we were experiencing the blizzard this week I received an email that I’d like to share. The email was a post from the blog, Das Gute Essen, written by Sue B. Balcom. Working in concert with the Tri-County Tourism Alliance Project, Balcom is writing a book and has already developed an exhibition about the women who have historically been the (behind the scenes) strength of our regional households and homesteads.

The exhibit, titled Women Behind the Plow, is coming to The Arts Center on January 12.  For a preview, I thought you might be interested in reading Balcom’s blog. So far the show has received glowing reviews and I’m looking forward to hosting it here in Jamestown. The Germans from Russia Heritage Society James Valley Chapter will be providing food at the opening reception, January 12 at 5:30 pm. Everyone is welcome.
